水の記憶｜Memory of Water
海を俯瞰する視点から、下関に寄せてきた数々の波とともに移り変わる歴史を描いた作品です。重なり合う波は時代の歩みを、月の満ち欠けは「絶えず移ろい続ける」人々の営みを象徴しています。満月がないのは、藤原道長が自らを満月に喩えた逸話に重ね、どの時代も永遠にはとどまらないことを示すためです。
This work depicts the shifting history of Shimonoseki through the perspective of waves rolling in from the sea. The overlapping waves symbolize the passage of time, while the waxing and waning of the moon represents the ever-changing human endeavors.
The absence of a full moon reflects the anecdote of Fujiwara no Michinaga likening himself to the full moon, signifying that no era lasts forever.
