畳クチュール｜Tatami-couture
「畳クチュール」は廃畳を衣服として纏う試みです。着ればその場が和室となり、座れば小さな茶室、寝転べば即席の畳間となります。
畳はかつて、折り畳んで運ばれる可動的な存在であり、茶室の畳の上では武器の持ち込みを禁じることで平和の精神を示してきました。
本作は戦争の記憶を抱えた土地で、未来の平和を問いかけます。
Tatami Couture is an experiment in wearing discarded tatami mats as clothing. When worn, the space becomes a Japanese-style room; when seated upon, a small tea room; when reclined upon, an instant tatami room.
Tatami mats were once portable, folded for transport. In tea rooms, prohibiting weapons on tatami demonstrated a spirit of peace.
This work, born in a land bearing memories of war, poses a question about future peace.
