The four iron rings encircling the straw sandals represent the four elements—fire, water, earth, and wind—transmitted since ancient times in nature-rich Hakone.The source of the rings connecting these four great elements is iron, indispensable to humanity and the Earth.
I imagine the straw sandals, crafted by artisans through generations of practice, were also born amidst various natural phenomena, perhaps while admiring flowers.

Here, “original form” refers to achieving structural self-sufficiency. This relies on the toughness of metal.
Both flowers that bloom through Japan's four seasons and flowers created by humans mature with gentle care and attention. Stone and metal are natural materials, yet they are crystallized substances born from human ingenuity, incorporated into daily life.
